Addressing successfully shortage of drivers in Europe

UETR Secretary General Marco Digioia gave the keynote speech at the Roundtable “‘European Truck Drivers’ Shortage: Causes & Solutions’” at the CSR Europe SDG Sustainability Development Goals Summit 2022 last week.

He highlighted actions from private and public stakeholders to overcome a shortfall or more than 400.000 truck drivers in Europe, from adequate parking areas all over the EU to subsidies for training for professional drivers and also work on communication to make the role of the transport workers attractive from the point of view of image.

All players in real economy and supply chain need to work together for attractiveness and quality jobs, “to ensure that driver profession is considered a “dream job” for many young people. And current drivers do not leave the job, being aware that society is grateful to them for the work they do” he said.
