EU Commission publishes its toolbox to address energy price crisis

The European Commission has published today its AccelerateEU  toolbox (https://ec.europa.eu/commission/presscorner/detail/en/ip_26_629 ) with a number of measures to address the ongoing energy price crisis, including a cooordinated action among Member States, and the establishment of a Fuel Observatory to monitor production, imports, exports and fuel stock levels.

The Commission will also present an Electrification Action Plan, which will include ambitious electrification targets, measures to remove barriers in the transport sector, and a State Aid Temporary Framework, which will provide additional flexibility for national governments, including emergency measures to support the most exposed economic sectors.

Significant EU resources are available, including €219 billion from the Recovery and Resilience Facility (RRF) and cohesion policy funds. However, around €660 billion per year will be needed until 2030 to support the energy transition. To mobilise private investment, the Commission adopted a Clean Energy Investment Strategy in March 2026 and will organise an investment summit bringing together institutional investors, industry, project developers and public financiers.

UETR, who called for EU action to support small businesses, hopes for a swift implementation of these measures, capable of delivering effective support to road transport SMEs and ensuring they can benefit without delay from the proposed actions and improvements.
