06 Nov UETR welcomes European Parliament’s pragmatic approach to Clean Corporate Vehicles
UETR welcomes the outcome of the joint ENVI-TRAN Committee vote on the Clean Corporate Vehicles Regulation, marking an important step towards a more pragmatic and flexible approach to road transport decarbonisation.
UETR particularly welcomes the decision to rely on indicative targets rather than mandatory vehicle purchasing obligations, giving Member States greater flexibility to determine how best to achieve emissions reductions in line with their national circumstances and market conditions. For Europe’s road transport SMEs, decarbonisation must go hand in hand with operational realities and infrastructure availability.
Access to appropriate financial support remains essential, particularly for smaller transport operators.
On the joint report’s approach to low-emission vehicles, UETR underlines that a successful green transition will require full technological neutrality, recognising the contribution of all available technologies and fuels, alongside zero-emission solutions, to reducing emissions in road transport.
UETR also underlines the importance of structured dialogue between policymakers, transport operators, vehicle manufacturers and infrastructure providers, ensuring that future measures reflect the practical realities of the sector.
The two Committees’ vote is an important step towards a more balanced regulatory framework. UETR calls on the European Parliament and Member States to maintain this pragmatic approach in the forthcoming negotiations and ensure that the final legislation supports decarbonisation without undermining the competitiveness of Europe’s road transport SMEs.
