UETR calls ECOFIN for support for professional gasoline
UETR welcomes the IrishPresidency’s objectives on renewable energies and quality fuels directives.
In view of theexamination of the last review of Energy Taxation Directive scheduled at ECOFINin the coming months, UETR highlights the importance of reaching a politicalagreement maintaining the possibility for Member States to differentiatebetween commercial and non-commercial use of gas oil.
“We hope that the Irish Presidency, which will beat the helm of the EU Council of Ministers for the first six months of thisyear, will take into consideration our remarks by carefully assessing allaspects of the issue: with no more possibilities of having a refund of specialexcise duties on gasoil for professional use, the damage to road haulage sector(and consequently to the EU real economy) will be huge, and without obtaining areal improvement in terms of environmental sustainability” says UETR SecretaryGeneral Marco Digioia
UETR is in favor of decreasing fossil fueldependency, improving consumption per vehicle and fostering alternative fuels, butremarks that there is no alternative technology making use of an energyresource that can fulfill the same need for energy as oil.
