New Marco Polo II funds for 2011

21 October 2011 – The new Marco Polo II Call for 2011 has been launched today. The program, which aims to reduce European road traffic for an annual volume of 20 billion tons per kilometer (the equivalent of more than 700000 trucks a year travelling between Paris and Berlin), will allot 56.87 million €. Marco Polo II funds are designed to support projects in the maritime, inland water and railways transport sectors in order to reduce road congestion for a volume of 144 billion tons per kilometer in the period 2007-2013. In 2011, a special priority will be given to environmentally-friendly projects in the above-mentioned areas.

The deadline for submission of applications is 16 January 2012. The selected projects will be announced in June and the signature of contracts will be held in November/December 2012. The selection process will take particular care to avoid cases of competition in the sea transport sector in order to maximize the effects of distributed funds.
