Meeting with the EU Commission’s Vice President on the 3 rd Mobility Package

UETR Secretary General Marco Digioia met on 10 April with European Commission’s Vice President Maroš Šefčovič on the 3 rd Mobility Package.

The Commissioner shared the main elements of the proposals and a fruitful exchange of views between the Vice-President and the other social partners participating (UEAPME, CEEP, ETUC, BusinessEurope) took place.

Digioia stressed  the importance of digitalization for savings in terms of time, cost and emissions, road safety and enforcement. Large investments for both physical and non physical infrastructure, vocational training for future IT skills which will be requested to transport companies and drivers. Pubic financial support investments in vehicles propelled by alternative fuels is also needed. 

He remarked that automated vehicles technology can address the shortage of professional drivers faced by road transport industry. A new model can make the profession more attractive but this will require a big effort, long term vision and holistic approach. Finally, It is crucial for the independent automotive operators providers to have direct access to time-critical in-vehicle generated data.
