Breathalyzer mandatory for all the vehicles operating in France

Breathalyzer mandatory for all the vehicles operating in France

29 March 2012 – According to the Decree n. 2012-284 of 28th February 2012, from 1st July 2012, all land motor vehicles (excluding motorcycles), which will circulate in France, must be equipped with a breathalyzer (éthylotest) on board. Also those vehicles not registered in France must comply with that decree.

The alcohol test must meet the conditions of validity, including the expiration date, provided by the manufacturer. It must have a certification label or a manufacturer’s mark that indicates compliance with the requirements. All the vehicles equipped with a certified immobilizer working through an electronic breathalyzer will be considered compliant with the decree.

The alcohol limit, in France,  is set at 0.25 milligrams per liter of exhaled air.
