Shortage of drivers: a holistic approach is needed to address a number of critical issues to make the profession in Europe more attractive.

Shortage of drivers across Europe is impacting supply chains, trade and the real economy as a whole.

The British government’s package on visa facilitation for EU drivers and training measures is positive.

A holistic approach is needed to address a number of critical issues to make the profession in Europe more attractive.

1 We need a wide network of adequate parking areas for safe and secure working conditions for professional drivers and haulers, now more than ever with the COVID crisis.

2 Granting subsidies for training for professional drivers (for obtaining a professional driving license /vocational training, targeting in particular young people and unemployed) is indeed another key measure.  .

Ensuring quality of working conditions is key to address successfully very serious issues like the shortage of drivers.

There is a new operational environment of movement of goods and lorries between the EU and UK and a pandemic still going on. “We hope that this new package will improve the situation in UK to the benefit of society and economy” said UETR President Julio Villaescusa.
