18 Dec Decarbonising corporate vehicles: UETR appreciates a pragmatic, SME‑friendly framework to accelerate the transition to zero‑emission road freight
UETR, representing Europe’s micro, small and medium‑sized road transport companies, welcomes the European Commission’s continued focus on advancing the decarbonisation of road freight. UETR appreciates the Commission’s acknowledgement of the SME dimension and sector‑specific realities, as well as its approach centred on Member States’ responsibilities rather than imposing obligations directly on individual companies.
As Europe moves towards cleaner corporate fleets, UETR stresses the importance of a framework built on support—especially for small operators who often work with very limited investment capacity.
Insufficient charging infrastructure—particularly for heavy‑duty and long‑distance operations—together with high vehicle and energy costs, remains a major barrier to rapid zero‑emission vehicle uptake. A realistic and credible pathway must take these constraints into account and ensure strong engagement from Member States in delivering enabling conditions on the ground.
The full implementation of a technology‑neutral policy framework , ensuring that battery‑electric, renewable and low‑carbon fuels, and other emerging solutions all contribute, is also key.
UETR trusts that the chosen policy option will remain stable over time, ensuring a predictable and reliable legal and operational framework.
UETR and its members remains fully committed to working with EU institutions, Member States and stakeholders to deliver a competitive, resilient and sustainable transport ecosystem. A supportive, technology‑neutral and Member State‑supported approach will empower Europe’s micro, small and medium hauliers to continue delivering essential goods to citizens while actively contributing to the EU’s decarbonisation objectives.
